3 UK has announced plans to launch a new mobile Wi-Fi device in time for Christmas, aimed at providing devices such as the iPod Touch with access to the 3 network from any location.
The company says the new wireless modem will allow customers to create their own personal mobile Wi-Fi connection and connect multiple devices such as netbooks and iPods.
Unlike USMB mobile broadband modems, the wireless modem will not require users to install software on the devices, instead using a traditional Wi-Fi connection with security provided by an eight-digit network key which you will need to be entered just once for every new device.
Marc Allera, Sales & Marketing Director at 3 UK says, “There are millions of Wi-Fi devices out there, but they can only be used in fixed locations. Consumer demand for easy and affordable internet access on the go is growing fast and we’re responding to that by announcing the UK’s first wireless modem.
Mobile Wi-Fi, also known as MiFi®, will come to 3 in time for Christmas 2009. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
