For the third week in a row Christopher Eccleston and Doctor Who have delivered the BBC a ratings victory over ITV’s Ant & Dec.
According to overnight figures (and the official Who website) 8.3 million viewers (36.7% of the available audience) tuned in to see the Doctor and Rose team up with Charles Dickens in the first historical adventure of the season.
The audience was up more than a million on last week’s episode and the show retained it’s audience share.
For the thid week in a row ITV’s former ratings heroes trailed in the wake of the Timelord, mustering just 7.1m.
The episode also beat the Royal Wedding, the Grand National & Casualty.
