At what point do you sacrifice your nation for the truth?
Isaacs describes his character as "e;a real maverick [who] behaves in an un-ambassadorial way. He is not just the balm behind the scenes – he actually ruffles feathers."e;
The 43-year-old actor, who hails from Merseyside and studied Law at Bristol University, adds that Mark is pivotal to the riveting action that motors The State Within at such a breathtaking pace.
"e;The drama is a rollicking good watch.
It is an exciting, sexy, fast, intelligent conspiracy thriller, set around the world of politics, big business and terrorism, and my character is at the heart of it.
The series also stars Sharon Gless as US Secretary of Defense Lynne Warner who crosses swords with Brydon in the aftermath of an immense terrorist attack.
Discussing what attracted her to the role Gless says "e;above all, it was the script. I had to give it three reads because it’s very, very complicated. I just knew I had to be part of it."e;
A card-carrying Anglophile, Gless says the other mayor consideration was three plain letters: BBC. "e;I’m working for the BBC – that’s such a thrill!,"e; she beams. "e;I’ve done radio for the BBC before, but never film.
Then I heard about all these wonderful actors they were bringing over from London, and I thought, ‘I’d like to be in that’. So I met with the producers and here I am!"e;
The State Within starts November 2nd on BBC One.
