BBC poised to announce new Doctor Who star

January 2, 2009 by Martin Hoscik · 5 Comments

After months of speculation, Doctor Who fans will tomorrow find out the identity of the 11th Doctor as part of a special edition of Doctor Who Confidential. Doctor Who Confidential – The Eleventh Doctor will air on BBC One tomorrow, Saturday 3 January 2009, at 5.35pm.

The casting announcement follows David Tennant’s decision to leave the role after her completes filming four specials, to be aired during 2009 and into New Year 2010.

The next Doctor will take over the role when the series returns in 2010 under Executive Producers Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger.

A statement issue by the BBC earlier today says the casting of the new Doctor was “job number one to be completed” before scripts could be finalised and shooting could begin in the summer.

In tomorrow’s special the new Doctor will give their reaction to being the new, 11th incarnation of one of television’s most loved characters.

Head Of Drama BBC Wales, Piers Wenger, said: “We are so pleased to have been able to cast this person as the new Doctor. We believe the actor is going to bring something very special to the role and will make it absolutely their own – I just can’t wait to tell everyone who it is – it has been a nail-biting Christmas trying to keep this under wraps!”

Please let it NOT be any of the ho hum names on the bookie’s and paper’s lists.

I hope the new production team follow RTD in casting an almost-unknown actor, big names will destabilise the show.

Kerry Katona is looking for work…

  3. Craig says:

Another vote for ‘none of the above’ please – Patterson Joseph is a lightweight comedy actor best known for Peep Show and IIRC mocking Adrian Lester’s Hustle character in Dead Ringers.

As for Lester himself, after Bonekickers he should stay well away form any attempt at real drama.

Oh god, if it’s Nebitt I’ll sit out the next few years of the show. He was just about tolerable as Jeckyl but he should stick to mugging away in the Yellow Pages ads.

    LOL@ Kerry Katona
