BBC Three is to offer social media and web-based coverage of UFC bouts, including this month’s Silva vs. Bisping contest which takes place at the O2 arena on Saturday 27 February.

The coverage will span the channel’s website, social media accounts and new Daily Drop microsite and will combine live blogging with video clips and social media updates.

In addition, BBC Three will work with the sport to produce short films and content on mixed martial arts, as well as on UFC athletes including Conor McGregor, Holy Holm, Ronda Rousey and Michael Bisping.

Damian Kavanagh, Controller, BBC Three, said: “BBC Three has a history of covering emerging sports that appeal to young audiences in new ways, and our coverage of UFC will be no different.”

“We already offer sport on The Daily Drop and it’s right we cover one of the fastest growing, and most talked about sports in the world, which has millions of fans in the UK, all in a BBC Three way.”

BBC signing up to cover mixed martial arts is really huge. For an arm of the country broadcaster, it’s big and can only be positive for the sport. Still miss UFC on Bravo though.
