According to the Guardian, the controller of BBC Three says it’s “the channel that breaks new comedy in the UK”.
That’s a pretty generous self-accolade for a channel which recently ran the 100th series of Two Pints and lazily imports comedy from the US.
Yes, the channel has been responsible for two decent new comedies of the past two years – Him and Her and Mongrels – but it’s hardly the UK’s comedy powerhouse.
With The Inbetweeners, Fresh Meat and Friday Night Dinner to its credit, that status increasingly belongs to Channel 4.
But it’s not only Channel 4 which is developing new British comedy, Comedy Central recently gave us Tom MacRae’s Threesome which is at least as funny as anything BBC Three offers.
