But when in June will my iPad ship?

UK prices for the iPad have now been confirmed

Isn’t it frustrating – seeing all those lovely, shiny, awe-inspiring iPads in the news while your online order is sitting in a queue with a vague ‘Ships: June’ shipping date?

June’s a long time so it’d be nice to know whether to expect your iPad at the start or the end of the month – doubly so if you want it for a certain date or special occasion. With such a nebulous shipping date iPad may not be the ideal birthday gift for anyone marking their special day before July.

Unlike some I’m happy to accept that the stock shortages are genuine rather than careful media management but Apple could possibly be a little more forthcoming about when in June they expect the next stock batches to arrive and ship to customers.

PS: Am I the only person startled by the decision to allow Dixons to stock iPad?

Admittedly I stopped using that chain years ago but my lasting impression is of a rude, surly, disinterested and unhelpful shopping experience a million miles away from that offered by the Apple store or your average Apple Reseller.

Sure, things may have changed and perhaps deigning to interrupt a conversation with mate their to oversell an extended warranty is no longer the primary concern of the average Dixons employee but frankly I don’t know anyone willing to venture inside a store to find out.

Same here, I hate paying for something and having to wait especially with a vague delivery date. Surely its not hard for Apple to provide a better date than just ‘June’ ? Come on Apple, we’ve read the reviews, seen the videos, paid for it, now we WANT IT !!!

I concur. The kids and I went into PC world today – just to see one. We could have bought it there and then, instead of pre-ordering.

I Went to the apple store yesterday and I asked the apple salesman and she said we have heared around the 8th June but they weren’t sure

I’m in the same situation. It’s June 2 already and no updates.
It’s gonna be a real let down if I don’t hear from Apple by friday.
If I wait more than two weeks I’m gonna go crazy.

I doubt it will arrive before the 7th as that was the previous date that was up and they’ve had to push it back further. But hey, I’m going to be an optimist and hope for this time next week for a ship date. I live very much out in the sticks and the nearest apple store is nearly 3 hours away, whats more, I was confused and annoyed to find out that you can’t call an Apple store to ask if they have any in stock, to make my journey worthwhile! They simply say they can’t tell you. Weird…

I made my ipad purchase 3 days ago and all this waiting is driving me crazy already. I want the ipad NOW!!! My order status is still Not Yet Shipped. I wonder how long it takes for them to update it to “Prepare to ship”. I want it NOW!!!!!

Harry – you’ll be lucky. I called Apple today and was told my iPad may not ship until “the end of June”.

Obviously we all appreciate it’s a new product but given that the US online Apple store is giving a 7-10 day shipping estimate

it’s really not satisfactory to be brushed off with the open ended, unspecific shipping forecast of ‘June’ – especially as Apple clearly DO know when their stock is arriving in the UK.

There’s zero chance that Apple’s factories are telling them “hey, the next batch will be ready some time in June but we’re not quite sure when”, yet that’s exactly the message they’re passing on to their customers.

RE PCworld/Dixons… I was shocked too, and sadly the experience is still the same, absolutely awful.

I live quite near a pcworld that was supposed to stock said dev (i want 32gb+3g) – checked the dedicated pcworld microsite for ‘stock details’ and found my local store had ‘more than 10′- now don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t really expecting to get one, but, well you never know, all the info was promising. needless to say I didn’t get one. the website was ‘out of date’, and the people that work there are still the same… crap. they did tell me the local dixons had some, but only 16GB wireless version… pah.

I have now joined the ranks waiting for the device from Apple directly. I am a little disappointed (but not surprised) that Apple behave this way, it’s what arrogant big business does… p.s. I like apple products but i loathe apple.

Oh and about charging you for the device, i thought it was not legal to charge for something until is was ‘ready to ship’, otherwise they could take the cash, then not send the product for months… therefore you should not see a payment to apple until you’ve received word on when your order will be shipped- I could be wrong about this so please don’t quote it until you’ve checked- it’s covered by distance selling or buyer not present laws i believe.

As to when I will get mine, well I’m not expecting it to ship until the last day in june, at the earliest- with a 5-7 day delivery time so I should still get it for my birthday in the middle of july… I’m not that bothered really, if I was I would have :

    a. queued up like a muppet for 3 days.
    b. pre-ordered and got it a week ago like my friends did.

I live in Canada. All the other international stores have changed to say shipping in 7-10 days, as has Canada’s. However I ordered mine the day after it changed the the vauge June shipping date. So it sounds like they should be shipping before the 13, if they are doing first come, first served, as they should be.

Ordered mine on May 31 and got an email from Apple a week later saying my ipad will be shipped by June 18. Happy about this!
