Call Of Duty: World At War

November 23, 2008 by Mark C · 2 Comments

After the phenomenal success of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, many fans of this first person shooter series were concerned that a return to the battlefields of the second world war would be a step backwards.

While COD WAW is far from a retrograde step in the series, it isn’t a huge step forward either. The game uses the COD4 game engine with a few subtle tweaks here and there.

The campaign mode is split between two historic theatres of war, following the American forces as they take on the Japanese military in the Pacific region, and the second half follows the Russian Red Army as they push forward into the heart of Germany culminating in a daring raid to secure the Reichstag in Berlin.

One the coolest new additions to your armoury are flamethrowers which work to devastating effect when being attacked by fanatical Banzai troopers.

The online multiplayer games will be familiar to anyone who has played COD4, with the return of a slightly revamped capture the flag. The XP (experience points) system which was one of the key reasons for Modern Warfare being so addictive has been retained, As you complete challenges in the multiplayer arenas you gain experience points which allow you to upgrade your weapons and get access to perks which all help to give you an advantage over your fellow gamers.

Overall this is hugely enjoyable, especially the multiplayer which will give fans of COD4 new and interesting maps to explore. Not as original as Modern warfare but still well worth a look if you’re a fan of the genre.

I Your a Fan of CoD4 you’ll like this game! I like the game! but its nothing different! My only complaint is when i want play 4 player split screen (ps3 user) with my house mates we are still only allowed some of the maps, also there’s no split screen Lan which from what i have read was one of the biggest complaints about CoD4. But still i guess the option is there for me and my house mates to blow each other away which for new gen console users these days is a rare thing in a console game to actually have 4 player split sreen.
