The British Board of Film classification has awarded the DVD release of ‘Dalek’ a 12 rating.
A spokesman for the BBFC said: “However cross one might be with a Dalek, being cruel is not the way to deal with the issue. Some children might take it into the playground.”
The ruling prevents copies of the DVD being sold to children under 12 years old.
According to today’s Times the third episode in the series, The Unquiet Dead, has also fallen foul of the board who claim the supernatural elements of the story would be “unsettling” to younger children.
A BBC spokesperson said “We would have preferred a PG rating but we were not willing to re-edit the episodes to obtain that – we wanted to release the episodes exactly as they had been on seen on TV,”
