Disney – Pixar’s Up set for take off

I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview of Disney – Pixar’s latest animated feature Up.

As previously covered by Seenit.co.uk Up centres around Carl Fredricksen – a 78 year old widower and former balloon salesman who is in danger of being hounded out of his home by property developers. When it appears inevitable that he will be forced to move in to a retirement home he decides it’s time to take drastic action and fulfil a longstanding promise to his late wife, and so begins a fantastic adventure.

Whilst he may seem an unlikely hero, Carl endears himself to the viewer in the opening scenes of the movie as we get a potted history of his life right through to the point where the movie proper begins. The screening I attended had a wide age range and everyone seemed to be thoroughly entertained by this charming film.

Along the way we encounter Russell an 8 year old ‘Wilderness Explorer’, Dug a talking dog and Kevin a colourful 13-ft tall flightless bird with a love of chocolate.

There are plenty of laughs and excitement to be had, and a few nods to classic literature (anyone who has read The Lost World by Arthur Conan-Doyle will see a few similarities).

If you are a fan of Pixar’s previous offerings you will love Up.

Up opens across the UK on October 9th.
