Do you want originality with your COD?

November 30, 2009 - Martin P

256px-Modern_Warfare_2_coverCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2… ‘pah its alright. Not nearly the hit that the first title was. A lot of reviewers have likened the single player to a James Bond movie, I don’t think it has even that credibility! The original was no Apocalypse Now but it did have a good coherent narrative and knew when to hold back MW2 on the other hand plays like every bad modern action war film you have ever seen all rolled in to one. In the first game the writers killed off a key character to great effect, in MW2 they drop like flies and the effect is spread thinly.

I probably shouldn’t be talking about this game without mentioning the massacre scene… for me it passed by with little fanfare, not least because at one moment I looked over the airport bannister and watched 30 victims perform a perfectly synchronised “dying” animation.

Multiplayer offers very little in new ideas, the maps are bigger and because of that they’re not as detailed. As with the last game things can be a little unbalanced unless your hooked up 24/7 to the game. There is a co-op that is a nice break from the run of the mill single-player and if the game starts to feel a little tired its well worth a look in.

More of the same really… but a must if your an FPS addict
