Peter Fincham, BBC One Controller, has praised Doctor Who during the launch of the channel’s new season of programmes.
Mr Fincham said that the show had alowed audiences to “rediscover family viewing” and indicated that the show had set a challenge for future programmes to meet.
“The way forward for terrestrial channels is to be bold and inspiring. There was nothing safe about the Doctor Who commission whatsoever – banana skins were strewn down the runway”.
One of the shows spawned from the success of Who is a planned revival of Robin Hood.
