The CBBC website has announced that a third series of Doctor Who has been given the go-ahead.
The site also confirms that Billie Piper will appear as Rose for the entire second series opposite David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor.
According to posts on the Restoration Team forum Ms Tranter also announced that a second Christmas Special has been approved to form part of the third series.
The news of the third series has been covered by the UK’s ‘The Guardian‘ newspaper.
Meanwhile Russell T Davies, Executive Producer and every fan’s favourite Welshman, appeared on BBC Breakfast to discuss the final episode in the current series.
Talked about the shows reputation becoming a “joke”
Russell discussed how at the times the show’s reputation had become a “joke” and said that it had been “depressing” to read newspaper reports that they production team were looking to cast the likes of Paul Daniels.
Speaking about the casting of Christopher Eccleston RTD said accepting the part had been a “risk on his part” but that it had led to a shifting of the industry’s perception of the show, adding that his departure was a “great loss” to the show.
Asked about the reaction of fans to changes such as the destruction of Gallifrey Russell said that the “majority of fans” were on the production team’s side adding he had expected that by now fans would “be picketing the BBC and petitioning the BBC to have me hanged”.
Filming was confirmed as starting in the next “six or seven week”.
A clip of Saturday’s episode was also shown featuring a confrontation between The Doctor and the Daleks in which The Doctor stated he is known as “the oncoming storm” in Skaro’s legends…
