The screening took place weeks before the episode aired which meant I had to wait even longer than everyone else to find out how the first case wrapped up.
Spoilers for anyone yet to see part two…
I quite liked that the killer was the creepy carpenter with a skill for carving himself a hiding place inside people’s homes.
The clues were there in very opening seconds of episode one but I can’t pretend I spotted the significance of the disappearing food until sometime into this week’s episode.
With one of this year’s three cases now solved I think we can safely call the new format a success – the show feels a lot stronger than the slightly contrived scenario of series two’s copy-cat Krays. Re-tooling a series like this is always a gamble but with Whitechapel the bet has really paid off.
Poor old Chandler’s hot date with the SOCO officer ended pretty sharpish when he stumbled on the answer to the case, but all that mess meant he was never likely to hang around long.
Perhaps Liz should have called Aggie and Kim before inviting Chandler round?
