Guardian Gets Excited By ‘Falling’ Audiences

In two very excited articles yesterday UK newspaper The Guardian made much of the fact that The Idiot’s Lantern was “one of the lowest-rated yet since the show returned last year“.

Without waiting for the official timeshifted BARB figures, which last year were up to 700,00 higher than the overnights, the paper suggested that “viewers may be tiring” of the revived show and asked “has Doctor Who gone off?

Although the main article does at least mention that some recent episodes have shifted around in the schedules there was apparently no space to relay the fact that the charity football match Soccer Aid “proved more popular than all the BBC1 competition on Saturday night bar Doctor Who and the early evening edition of Strictly Dance Fever.”

However according to online news site icWales a BBC spokesperson said the corporation is “delighted with the viewing figures the second series of Doctor Who has received so far”.
