TalkTalk is offering anyone signing up to its YouView-based Plus TV package six months free access to Netflix. The package, which costs £10 per month plus line rental. includes broadband, calls and a mobile SIM as well as access to six Sky entertainment channels, including Sky One, Sky Living and Sky Arts.
TalkTalk's decision to give away YouView boxes to new and existing phone and broadband customers has helped it become the UK's third biggest pay-TV provider.
82,000 customers took the ISPs TV service in the three months ending March 2015 (Q4), down from 115,000 in the previous quarter and more than 100,000 lower than its 2014 Q4 figure of 185,000.
Customers who sign up to the Sky Sports and Sky Movies between May 14 and May 20 will be eligible for the deal. Non-sports fans can add the Sky Movies Boost for £1.50 a month for three months from Thursday, May 7 May to Saturday, May 13.
TalkTalk is offering three months half price on its Entertainment Extra channel package and Sky Sports and Sky Movies combined ‘Boost’ available until 19 February.
TalkTalk says it is now rolling out a software update to add BBC connected red button and Netflix to its YouView set top boxes, with users who pre-registered their interest in Netflix among the first to get the new software.
Customers will also get access to the new Talk2Go app which lets them pick up landline calls anywhere and make calls at landline rates via a mobile app.
TalkTalk says work will begin “immediately” to merge blinkbox with its existing TV business, with the ISP looking to use blinkbox’s existing expertise in building content apps to “accelerate” development of its own services.
