ITV is to broadcast a news special to mark the Diamond Wedding anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. The programme will tell the inside story of a royal romance, looking back over six decades together.
The Queen: 60 Years of Marriage will look behind the public face of a royal marriage with tributes from friends and family, and revisit some of the memories of those who were present on the Queen’s wedding day.
The Queens wedding day on 20 November 1947 gave the British people a chance to put aside the austerity and strains of post war Britain; a day that symbolised hope with a theatricality and longing for change like no other royal wedding had done before, or would do again.
Presenter Katie Derham speaks exclusively to the Duke of York who talks for the first time about his parents’ marriage and about what it was like growing up as the first child born to a reigning monarch for over 100 years.
We also hear from the Queen’s bridesmaids and speak to the seamstress who made the Queens wedding dress.
The Queen: 60 Years of Marriage, Friday 16 November, 8.30pm on ITV1.
