Michelle Ryan (Mansfield Park, Jekyll, EastEnders) is the Bionic Woman in David Eicks remake of the iconic seventies series which arrives on ITV2 this month.
Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teenage sister, Jaime Sommers (Michelle Ryan) didn’t think life could get much harder until a devastating car accident leaves her at death’s door,
her only hope for survival is a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price.
With a whole new existence and a debt to re-pay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good – while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it’s Jaime’s journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as the Bionic Woman in this new action-drama series.
Zai Bennett, Controller of ITV2, says: “To be delivering ITV2 audiences an action packed American drama with a British actress in the lead role is a great thing. I think viewers will relish the chance to see Michelle Ryan in such a different role and will enjoy the escapism of Bionic Woman.”
Ryan says she was “ompletely overwhelmed” when she heard she’d got the job.”
Describing her character Michelle says: I think Jaime has strength and feistiness to her but she also has this real vulnerability underneath and she is different from everybody else because she is bionic.
“Not only is she dealing with everything that a young woman in her early 20s has to cope with but shes also coming to terms with the fact she is Bionic and has all these amazing new abilities and strengths. Its a great female role to play. So often the characters you go up for are the bimbo or the bitch, whereas Jaime has so many layers to her.”
