November will see BBC Audiobooks release classic radio science fiction series Journey into Space as a series of digital downloads.
The series first aired on BBC radio during the 1950s. Its gripping story lines, extra-terrestrial sound effects and atmospheric music pioneered the art of science fiction storytelling, and earned it a key place in the history of radio drama.
Written by Charles Chilton and starring Andrew Faulds and David Jacobs, 53 half_hour episodes were made across three series in the 1950s (not counting the original first series, whose tapes were wiped shortly after broadcast).
The nation was gripped by the adventures of Jet Morgan and his crew as they travelled to the moon and Mars in Operation Luna, The Red Planet and The World in Peril. In 1981 a 90 minute sequel, The Return from Mars, was also made.
All these episodes, plus some bonus features, will now be available to purchase as MP3 files from a range of audio retailers.
Customers will be able to buy them individually or as complete series _ in the latter case, a fully illustrated information document is also supplied.
This title is available to purchase as a download from digital retailers such as Audible, Audioville, Audio-Read, BBC Shop, HMV, iTunes, Overdrive, Mediabay, 7 Digital, Simply Audiobooks, Spoken Network, TuneTribe and Plays on the Net.
