Netgem has launched its own personalised TV service which combines Freeview Play with catch-up and on-demand content, all available through a dedicated 4K set top box and companion apps for iOS and Android.
The NetBox 4K box is the first 4K capable Freeview Play device and features Dolby Atmos, 4K HDR, PVR capability (external USB stick required), 4K media streaming over high-speed Wifi and voice control via Amazon’s Alexa.
In addition to Freeview Play channels, it offers easy access to BBC iplayer, iTV Hub, All4, My5, UKTV Play, Youtube 4K, Amazon Prime Video, Rakuten TV, Hayu, Hopster and Deezer.
Content from all services is highlighted through a personalised recommendations feature and the smartphone app can be used to cast content to the main TV, as well as to access recorded shows.
The system is backed up by Netgem’s own 24/7 support team, with the box also benefitting from a lifetime warranty and an ‘always working’ promise which pledges that bundled apps will remain operable “even in a few years”.
Sylvain Thevenot, Managing Director of netgem.tv said: “TV has evolved a lot over the last few years, and with netgem.tv, we are pleased to bring together the best of Pay-TV with the best of Free-TV – delivering the greatest value content across all consumer segments.
“Whether you are time-poor family parents wanting to follow your favourite series without having to look for content inside multiple Apps, or you are a teenager wanting to watch the latest reality TV show in your bedroom, or simply accessing the recorded News on your tablet, we have reinvented TV with a simple, affordable, and personalised multiscreen TV service.”
As well as its growing range of retail products, Netgem also powers TV services offered by several ISPs, including Jersey Telecom, Voneus and Pure Fibre.
Paolo Pescatore of MIDiA Research said the newest device “represents a key step in the journey of reinventing the company as a consumer facing brand,” but added that Netgem remained “a great partner for telcos and other providers looking to offer a TV service with a wealth of content.”
Prices at £149, the NetBox 4K is on sale from today and can be ordered from Amazon.co.uk.
