The casting of Smith, who takes over from current Doctor David Tennant early next year, was announced in a special BBC One edition of Doctor Who Confidential in January. He’ll be accompanied by Karen Gillan as companion Amy Pond.
Speaking as his casting as announced, Smith said he felt “proud and honoured to have been given this opportunity to join a team of people that has worked so tirelessly to make the show so thrilling.”
Accompanying the logo at bbc.co.uk/doctorwho is an animated insignia of the show’s initials, which will be used as branding for the new series in conjunction with the logo.
Steven Moffat, the new Lead Writer and Executive Producer, said: “A new logo. The 11th logo for the 11th Doctor – those grand old words, Doctor Who, suddenly looking newer than ever.
“And, look at that, something really new – an insignia! DW in TARDIS form! Simple and beautiful, and most important of all, a completely irresistible doodle.”

Doctor who has not been seen on tv for nearly a year now, Merlin has come back and the writing on that show has got better.
With the change to Matt Smith( a wrong choice i think) and all the other changes , but time will tell? what time does not need to tell however is what will happen if there is anymore delay, people are very fickle and lose interest very quickley, the bbc might be suprised if the ratings desend to just a bunch of die hard fans like myself, but I for one wont be!
The BBC seems to be resting on its laurals with this one and I very much fear the show might go the same way as it did in the 80s and 90s, or the spin offs like torchwood and sarah jane will divide the audience age groups so much as to make” Who” slighty less relevant.
I’m a DW fan and a graphic designer. And I can tell you that it breaks all of the rules of graphic design!
I can see the show going that way too and as a fan I am worried, but What ‘J Walsh’ is forgetting is that there will be a new writer.
The logo is good without the TARDIS insignia.
