In early December the BBC Doctor
Who site published a 27 second trailer for
the new series. Originally shown to the press as part of the forthcoming BBC
season launch, the trailer zoom in to Earth from space towards, what appears
to be, the Brandon Estate in South East London.
Playing over the images are lines of dialogue performed by Chris Eccleston
and Billie Piper. The new logo is also featured before the trailer wraps with
the dematerialisation of the TARDIS.
A modified version of the trailer played on BBC1 on 1st January 2005 between
the main evening news and The Vicar of Dibley.
Judging the quality of any show by a single trailer would be rash, however
the piece does tell us a lot about the new series. The effects point to a far
more lavish than ever before, while the frantic pace of the dialogue suggests
a lively and fast paced show.
With a touted (by fans) airdate of March 2005 it would seem UK fans are only
a few weeks away from seeing the first episode. With the BBCs publicity
machine fully behind the new series it seems fans can expect a high profile
advertising campaign unlike anything the show previously enjoyed.
