Back in November Amazon announced a multi-territory deal which will see its Prime Video service become the exclusive home of selected original drama series from AMC Studios, starting with Ridley Scott’s The Terror.
The release name-checked a number of Prime Video territories, including Germany, Italy, Japan and New Zealand, where the shows would be seen, but made no mention of the UK.
Despite this clear exclusion, speculation has run rampant on several TV related sites and forums that the announcement means BT is losing its exclusive AMC drama channel.
The exclusive Amazon/AMC Studios deal covers 28 countries. The UK isn’t one of them. Which is why Amazon UK didn’t issue a press release announcing the deal.
AMC is remaining on BT.
Amazon UK has confirmed to me that it’ll continue to show AMC content after it’s aired on BT, as it already does with Fear The Walking Dead which the streaming service has secondary rights to.
So, for those wanting to see it, The Terror will premiere in the UK on Tuesday 24 April 2018 on AMC.
As before, the channel is available exclusively to BT TV customers and Sky customers who subscribe to the BT Sport channel pack.

New York / Seattle, November 2017 –Amazon announced today an output agreement with AMC Studios through which Amazon Prime Video will have first window rights to select new AMC series in 28 territories as well as second run rights in many other countries all around the world.
Prime Video members in key territories like Australia, Germany, Italy, India, and Japan will exclusively see new shows from the network that brought viewers critically acclaimed hit series such as Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and Preacher before they will be available on any other channel.
The first new AMC show coming to Amazon Prime Video worldwide in 2018 will be the Anthology Series The Terror and is based on the true story of the Arctic expedition of Captain John Franklin that inspired the novel by acclaimed sci-fi author Dan Simmons.
The series is executive produced by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner 2049), David W. Zucker (The Man in the High Castle), and Guymon Cassady (Game of Thrones); David Kajganich (True Story, A Bigger Splash) and Soo Hugh (The Whispers, The Killing) are serving as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners with Scott Free, Emjag Productions and Entertainment 360 producing the series in association with AMC Studios.

Brad Beale, Vice President Worldwide Televison Acquisition, Amazon Prime Video, commented: “This is another step in our efforts to extend the selection of premium TV shows available to Prime Video members worldwide. We are thrilled to bring new shows from AMC, starting with The Terror, to our Prime members around the world.”
Rick Olshansky, President of Business Operations, AMC Studios, commented: “AMC Studios and Amazon already enjoy a successful programming partnership. This agreement underscores the high global demand for AMC’s must-have content and franchises and enables us to bring our popular shows to a wide global audience.”
“The Terror” stars Jared Harris (The Crown, Mad Men), Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones, Outlander) and Ciarán Hinds (Bleed for This, Game of Thrones). It is a suspenseful, mystery/thriller centering on a Royal Naval expedition’s harrowing voyage into unchartered territory as they attempt to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, disease, impending starvation due to limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Compounding these threats, the seamen also face a mysterious threat by something out in the frigid darkness, stalking their ship, snatching one seaman at a time and leaving bodies mangled or missing forever. Cold, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, “The Terror,” is an extreme tale of human survival and a “what if?” of epic proportions, revealing what hubris against nature can cost you.
