BBC worldwide have announced a major deal with CBC Television for the second Doctor Who series.
The deal includes a Christmas special, hosted by Billie Piper exclusively for CBC viewers that air on Boxing Day. The new 13 part adventure is currently filming in Wales and is due to air on CBC in 2006.
Today’s press release also states that “BBC Video is planning to release series one on DVD in February 2006.”
This news will be be warmly welcomed by fans in North America, especially those in the USA who have been unable to veiw the series in the absence of a sale to a US broadcaster.
BBC Worldwide recently appointed Buzzworthy as the merchandising agent for the Doctor Who brand in Canada, the first time an agent has been appointed solely for the territory.
