Research carried out in the US by Forrester appears to confirm the views of many analysts – eBooks will go mainstream when eBook reader makers drop their prices.
4,706 US consumers took part in an online survey to find out how much they’d expect to pay for a reader – the answer turned out to be between $50 and $99, a price point researchers describe as “shockingly low” given the lowest priced reader in the US currently retails for $199.
Many sector watchers believe any fall in device costs will need to be matched by lower book costs to match consumer expectations of ‘digital = cheaper’.
