Sky unveil plans for 3-D TV

Sky television have revealed plans to broadcast 3D television programmes.

In an article published on Whathifi.com, Sky have been filming events using 3D cameras, Journalists were shown footage of a Ricky Hatton boxing match and an episode of the revived Gladiators.

Viewers will need a Sky-HD box and a 3D capable TV (Which are not available yet) and special 3D glasses.

“We have shown it is a technical reality,” said Sky’s director of strategic product development, Gerry O’Sullivan. “Now we have to find a way to bring it to viewers.”

  1. As someone who is yet to make the HD jump (in fact had been planning to blog about that today) this makes me uncertain if I should now wait or is this years away from commercial reality?

    I thought that the 3D TV’s in development negated the need for the glasses?

    No suprise Sky have announced this… any excuse to squeeze some more money out of their customers… heck i’m suprised they don’t charge extra for surround sound!
