Connected set-top box service YouView has gained a new on-demand and catch-up player just for kids. Pulling together a range of content from Sony Pictures Television’s POP, Tiny Pop and KIX channels, the player will offer seven day catch-up with scroll back and search functionality.
Shows available include Angry Birds, Rangers Dino Super Charge! and Lego Friends.
YouView is the first platform to host the free player which is available on retail boxes as well as those provided by BT and TalkTalk.
“Our portfolio of children’s channels is the number 1 commercial kids’ network within the UK free-to-air market” said Sony’s Kate Marsh.
“Adding POP, Tiny Pop and KIX shows to YouView via our new player, allows more children and families to enjoy great content and colourful characters whenever it suits them.”
David Faulkner, YouView’s Head of Corporate and Business Development, added: “Sony Networks’ new kids player is a great addition to our already strong line up of Players and Apps.
“We strive to offer content for all ages as well as families and the catch-up content from POP, Tiny Pop and KIX helps to grow our offering.”
The player is the first addition to YouView since Netflix in 2014 and follows the departure of Sky Store and Quest Player from the platform last year.
A new fully HTML5 user experience is currently being rolled out to set top boxes as part of an overhaul of the YouView service.
