| Customer Reviews: roger moore magical February 2, 2010 S. scotland (Little Stoke Bristol UK) Not finished listening yet but a fascinating book. It is wonderful to hear Roger's voice, the emotions of the events. When he talks of his life and his films, it is weird because I can remember them all even most of his TV shows. To hear what happened to him on sets and in between films is like plugging knowledge gaps and makes you understand that although a wonderful actor, he is still as normal as us and has a wicked sense of humour.
Touch wood May 14, 2009 Mr. D. Swan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Extremely abbreviated but these 2 discs do give you the nub of Big Rodges life read by the most charming plank of wood in acting history, Witty, self effacing and sometimes painfully honest, Moore in his own words tells the story of his career and his relationships. Roger admits to his emotional cowardice and his luck that an actor with limited acting ability, (his own words) became a major motion picture star.
The second disc is mostly about UNICEF and you get the idea the whole thing is a kind of UNICEF advert but I can't begrudge that small fault, Rodge certainly wasn't ever my favorite actor but he has always been much more charming and interesting in real life than he ever was on the silver screen. Well worth a listen.
Moore like this, please! March 12, 2009 Victor Tugelbend (Hull, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This really is a charming audiobook. Roger Moore, best known for his role as James Bond, reveals himself to be a witty, modest and captivating speaker. Unlike many celebrities, this isn't a 'me me me' tale, or a point scoring exercise. It's the story of a very likeable chap who has quite appropriately made it big, and happens to have done some interesting things and met some interesting people along the way. As Roger Moore reads you are caught up in the fascinating story of someone who really can be described as a Gentleman. You get the impression that the suave sophisticate with the wide streak of gallantry and biting humour seen in Bond was actually quite close to the real Roger Moore. He has a story to tell, and it's quite fascinating. It also helps that he has an excellent reading voice. After listening to it I was left wanting Moore, and am now off to get the book so as to get the full, unabridged, story.
Essential for any Bond or Moore fans.... October 16, 2008 Mr. Matthew C. Wolski 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
An abridged version of the recently released Roger Moore biography read by the great man himself - which is a big bonus. Extremely witty, enjoyable and modest, this will have you longing for Moore (pardon the pun) after listening to the two and a half hour running time of this two disk set. Disk one takes a very in depth look at his childhood (i had no idea he spent time as a war orphan in nearby Worthing), his stints on Ivanhoe, The Saint and the Persuaders.Disk two covers his seven Bond movies and a very moving account of his experiences working for Unicef. The only thing that did disappoint is the lack of coverage of his other movies (Wild Geese and Cannonball Run to name two) but these are covered in the actual book.
