Amazon.co.uk Review Nearly 20 years after riding his last Crusade, Harrison Ford makes a welcome return as archaeologist/relic hunter Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, an action-packed fourth installment that's, in a nutshell, less memorable than the first three but great nostalgia for fans of the series. Producer George Lucas and screenwriter David Koepp (War of the Worlds) set the film during the cold war, as the Soviets--replacing Nazis as Indy's villains of choice and led by a sword-wielding Cate Blanchett with black bob and sunglasses--are in pursuit of a crystal skull, which has mystical powers related to a city of gold. After escaping from them in a spectacular opening action sequence, Indy is coerced to head to Peru at the behest of a young greaser (Shia LaBeouf) whose friend--and Indy's colleague--Professor Oxley (John Hurt) has been captured for his knowledge of the skull's whereabouts. Whatever secrets the skull holds are tertiary; its reveal is the weakest part of the movie, as the CGI effects that inevitably accompany it feel jarring next to the boulder-rolling world of Indy audiences knew and loved. There's plenty of comedy, delightful stunts--ants play a deadly role here--and the return of Raiders love interest Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, once shrill but now softened, giving her ex-love bemused glances and eye-rolls as he huffs his way to save the day. Which brings us to Ford: bullwhip still in hand, he's a little creakier, a lot grayer, but still twice the action hero of anyone in film today. With all the anticipation and hype leading up to the film's release, perhaps no reunion is sweeter than that of Ford with the role that fits him as snugly as that fedora hat. --Ellen A. Kim

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0011905MW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title March 3, 2010 Ashkima (Scotland UK.) this has to be one of the best Indiana Jones that has been made, it has a comical side to it and a lot of action! brilliant. well worth the money.
if you're a Indy fan avoid this February 26, 2010 M. kelly (lincoln) What a load of rubbish. Believe me it hurts me to say this as i am such a huge fan of the original trilogy. What is it with Lucas and and trilogies? He manages to make two great trilogies in Indiana Jones and Star Wars and it then seems he gets greedy and tries to make further installments which are awful. What happened to Indiana Jones? Fine, he's gotten older but he still looks great for his age and besides which Sean Connery was great in the Last Crusade. It's the annoying inclusion of a previous unknown son who seems only to be included so that script writers can include the 'don't call me Jnr line'. The plot is awful. You can feel Spielberg's hand in it when the alien element rears it's ugly head. Why? Aliens????? This film had such high expectations for me and it didn't deliver at all. What a sad addition to such a great trilogy. I hope Lucas and Spielberg are embarrassed.
"... the saddest are: it might have been." February 18, 2010 N. Capocci (UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
As a big Jones fan, this was a terrible dissapointment: a jaded performance from Ford; a wooden-to-the-point-of-laughable femme fatale; high school standard script and story line. A waste of celluloid and an insult to the intelligence. As for Spielberg... it's as if Beethoven had suddenly forgotten how to compose and taken up the banjo. Simply unbelievable.
Great movie January 15, 2010 E. Anderson (Scotland) This is a great film, typical of Harrison Ford's previous Indiana films. In fact you hardly even notice that he's 65 now; he seems just the same as in the others! Dvd in great condition and as described.
Nobody does it better... December 25, 2009 Tyrone (The Cotswolds, England) This ripping yarn was a beautifully woven fabric of 50's America, UFO myths & back-to-basics Indy Jones fun. Vintage Spielberg escapism & one of my favourite noughties fantasies.
