CSI but with Priests December 31, 2009 T. Beck 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying i don't like CSI (bland television). This is not even the equivalent. Its worse. I was really wanting to like this but i just couldn't. It is so badly written its laughable. Couldn't watch past episode 2. Glad i bought it cheap.
Good TV series on the occult December 11, 2009 D. S. Parsons (Riga in Latvia) I bought this as a complete gamble as I like Martin Shaw and the BBC usually makes a good fist of all TV drama, even if, as in this case maybe, their budget for special effects is somewhat limited in comparison to the movies. What it lacks in fizz-bang effects, I think it makes up for with good old-fashioned acting. Shaw is pretty convincing as a Catholic priest and exorcist caught betwen 21st century public scepticism of demons and their works, and antagonism from his own Church. I can recommend this if you like real acting and interesting ideas about the occult.
Apparitions (DVD) November 27, 2009 V. A. Couceiro 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This TV series was very different to the ususal church/horror things that we see. Martin Shaw was quite outstanding as the catholic priest dealing with an array of demons and he did it well, I would recommend this DVD

I bought this DVD based on the reviews given. I must say 'it was gripping!'. Needless to say, I put the last disc in the DVD player expecting another episode when the 'cast interviews' etc was played - though interesting, I would have preferred another/few more episodes. I hope they do make another series - I will be first in the queue!!
Spooky and Catholic October 20, 2009 EMB (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved Apparitions when I saw it on TV and enjoyed it even more when I watched the DVD as I didn't have to wait a week between episodes. How nice to see a Catholic priest who actually keeps his vows and believes in his faith - it's quite a change from the usual offerings on TV. It does wander around the borders of the occult and I did find a couple of bits somewhat dubious, eg. the black mass scene (as I am a Catholic) but overall, good triumphs over evil and it's an entertaining yarn. If you enjoy programmes with a supernatural theme, you should like this.
