3 out of 5 stars Not much replay value   September 7, 2010
Charlotte
I'll start off by saying.. this game is short! I completed it in about a week just playing casually after work, which is a little disappointing. The game itself is good, and I found myself genuinely scared at some parts (although to be honest i'm not exactly that hard to scare). The storyline is good, and you really immerse yourself in it. However, the gameplay gets a little tedious, doing the same things all the time, not much variation, and also I find there to be very little replay value at all, however I do recommend trying to play it somehow. I'd recommend perhaps renting this unless you get a good deal on it, as after that 1 week, I found it pretty useless.

This game has a comletly new game play style. Interesting,
Finaly a good story driven game!

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good Action/Horror   September 4, 2010

I'm a great lover of survival horror games and was slightly disappointed to find when playing that this game is pretty much just straight action- however it does this very well. The game's amazing graphics and lighting just oozes atmosphere in all of its environments. I didn't find this to be all that scary but it does have great tension to keep you on the edge of your seat. Two warnings though; the game is a little too short and there is little incentive to play it all again, and also the story makes little sense by the ending. The developer has said that all questions wont be answered by the end of the game but will be explained either in future DLC or the inevitable sequel.
In short, well worth a try.

4 out of 5 stars Alan Wake was good but too short   September 4, 2010

This was a thrill with amazing graphics, loads of lights and dark effects throughout the game! You'll be glued from beginning to end. Loved the cinematic in between each chapters (that reminded me of good TV series).
The plot was original and twisted to keep you going. The only down is that I have finished the game in one weekend, but I think for the price there are no further criticisms to bring up!

It's a good title that you'll like if you are a fan of thriller movies!

Despite the short time of play it still a good game to experience for the stunning visual and the thrilling action in escaping darkness.

4 out of 5 stars So far so good   August 22, 2010

First off I am only on episode 2 and don't usually write reviews. But I felt like I wanted to because of all the bad reviews this game is getting. My opinion on this game may change as I get further in, but so far I am enjoying it a lot. The graphics are some of the best I have seen, and probably the best on Xbox 360. The lighting is fantastic and so is the draw distance. You really do feel like you are in these creepy woods at night trying to survive. And the story so far has pulled me right in, I don't really like the main character, he seems like a bit of a jerk so far, a bit arrogant, a bit to easy to lose his temper. But maybe that's what they were going for in this game.

People say this game isn't scary, well compared to what?. I don't find any game to be scary, some games are creepy such as Silent Hill, Dead Space, and a few of the Resident Evil games. And I would add this game to the list of creepy titles out there. I do find the forest at night creepy, and the enemies as well. Something about enemies that talk to you as you are fighting them, is creepy, well to me anyway. Makes a change from mindless zombies and ghouls. This game reminds me of Silent Hill, mixed with a bit of Twin Peaks and John Carpenter's The Fog. If that makes sense.

One more thing I want to address is the game length. I've heard this game is short, the main game is about 10-12 hours long, but this game also comes with a code that allows you to download the siren, which is a extra episode that adds another hour or two to the game. It's also of good quality, like the main game. You will get your moneys worth out of this title, there are achievements for finding lots of hidden items and completing the game on different difficulty levels too.

I am not easily impressed with video games, I nearly passed over this game because of a lot of bad reviews. But so far I am very pleased that I bought it, and for the great price of £18 aswell.
