Let the BBC be a free public broadcasting channel only. If it wants to compete with commercial channels, and topical TV output, let them use adverts or selectoive subscription to do it, why should we pay for it ? It's hardly a level playing field for the other channels... News and education has an argument for a licence but not the rest...

We tend to watch mostly BBC programmes on the whole. If the proposed changes come to pass I hope the end result will be that the likes of ITV will be able to take more chances when commissioning new programmes and less of a reliance on so called reality shows.

They keep forgetting the licence fee is for the TV ownership not the BBC ! The BBC's obsessions with navel contemplation and nothing exists outside the BBC centre or London are the main reasons. The fee is for public broadcasting, the BBC has the total say on that and the free reign to keep its hand in our pockets too ? News should be accessible to all and cover the areas the BBC broadcasts in, main news repeated umpteen times a day and 24/7 on its channel completely ignores that. Only taking away the fee and redistributing the lot to British TV channels for accessible news is valid, not, to pay autocuties (!) and failed celebrities to be silly, let THAT go by subscription, see how far it gets them... but, make it via a card to insert into the TV's, NOT all mass payable to the BBC, let the BBC viewer pay, to watch the BBC, its not rocket science... At present I can watch SKY around the clock and still have to pay for these autocuties... BBC output is no longer the quality it once was, so why pay for garbage like Saturday night TV and daytime TV ? or 8 channels when 2 will do ?
