‘The Empty Child’ continued Doctor Who‘s ratings triumph over ITV with the episode beating the Star Wars prequel ‘The Phantom Menance’.
ITV had hoped the opening chapter in the Star Wars saga would reverse the trend of poor ratings sparked by the dismal ‘Celebrity Wrestling’ which was axed last week.
However, overnight figures prove the force is no match for time travel with 6.6 million tuning in for the pening epsiode of Steven Moffat’s chilling adventure. The Phantom Menance, showed in two parts, scored 3.5 million and 4.2 million.
Although audience figures are lower than usual this is another great result for Doctor Who – many potential viewers would have been out watching the FA Cup Final in bars and pubs.
