The first TV ad for YouView will premiere this weekend during the ITV 1‘s The X Factor, kicking off a “major” ad campaign for the service.
Developed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Arqiva, BT and Talk Talk, YouView combines broadcast channels with broadband delivered content from catch-up services such as the BBC’s iPlayer and 4oD.
Sky’s NOW TV service is also available, offering pay per view films and a movie season pass on flexible terms. Sky has said it will add TV and sport content at a later date and other content providers are expected to be announced soon.
The public launch comes two months after the service was unveiled to the UK’s media and a ‘soft launch’ which saw boxes ship just before the Olympics.
Earlier this week BT unveiled its YouView based offering. Broadband rival and fellow YouView shareholder TalkTalk is already accepting orders.
Lord Sugar, Chairman of YouView said; “The last couple of months have proven to be very positive for YouView, following our announcement of the product back in July. We are now available in multiple retail outlets nationwide and are looking forward to offering this simple-to-use box to customers through BT and TalkTalk, further supporting our desire to provide extraordinary TV for everyone.”
YouView CEO Richard Halton added; “YouView has now truly arrived, with the launch of a major advertising campaign this weekend and great offers from BT and Talk Talk for their 10 million customers. The feedback from our early triallists and customers, together with positive media reviews reinforce our belief that YouView offers the public a fantastic viewing experience.
“What’s more, with more content partners scheduled to come on board and regular enhancements to the service taking place all the time, we are excited about how the YouView proposition will constantly evolve, at no further cost.”
