BBC Two takes viewers back to The OK Corral when the final episode of their Wild West series airs next Friday (9th March).
If any single event could be said to embody the Wild West, it would be the gunfight at the OK Corral; the classic Western shoot-out – lawmen versus cowboys – that made Wyatt Earp a great American hero.
It lasted just 30 seconds and, at the end of the murderous mayhem, three men lay dead and two badly wounded. But when the smoke first cleared, Earp was seen as a villain, not a hero.
He was charged with murder and went on trial for his life. The programme recreates the frantic 30 seconds that have become so synonymous with the Wild West and the simmering resentments of the 24 hours that led up to it.
