Corrie Stars Kick Off New Millionaire Series

August 8, 2008 - Staff@seenituk

The next series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? will kick off with a celebrity special featuring the stars of Coronation Street.

First to face host Chris Tarrant in the hotseat will be Samia Smith and Jennie McAlpine, the Street’s Maria Sutherland and Fiz Brown. They’ll be followed by Sally Whittaker who has played Sally Webster for over 20 years and Michael Starke who plays the Street’s Jerry Morton.

Two other celebrity charity specials will see actress Michelle Collins and actor Sean Gallagher, recently seen on ITV1 as co-stars in Rock Rivals, braving the 12-step money tree in hope of boosting funds for inclusive theatre company, Chickenshed, and international animal protection organisation, WSPCA.

Next up, presenter and broadcaster, Johnny Vaughan, and presenter and stage star, Denise Van Outen, co-hosts of the Capital Radio Breakfast Show, will meet their Capital Radio predecessor Chris Tarrant, to play for Capital’s Help A London Child, which provides financial support to projects for London’s less advantaged children.

The third celebrity special will see Duncan Bannatyne, the Scottish entrepreneur now famed as a dragon in Dragons’ Den, and television presenter, Kirsty Gallagher, take their place in the hotseat to raise funds for NCH, The Children’s Charity, followed by actress and television presenter, Denise Welch, and Falklands hero, Simon Weston, who are playing in aid of youth charity, Weston Spirit.

Chris Tarrant, host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, said: “Over the past ten years, we’ve had over 200 celebrities brave enough to sit opposite me and face the money tree, and between them they’ve raised an incredible £4,000,000. It’s always much harder for them as the stakes feel so much higher when it’s for charity. They’ve all been great sports in aid of literally hundreds of good causes, and I take my hat off to them all.”
