The third series of the popular revival of Doctor Who comes to DVD next month with a host of extra features.
The six disc set features the 2006 Christmas Special ‘The Runaway Bride’ and all thirteen episodes of the 2007 series including Steve Moffat’s sinister ‘Blink’, Paul Cornell’s period two-parter ‘Human Nature’ / ‘The Family of Blood’ and the epic three-part finale which takes the Doctor and friends from the end of the universe to present day Cardiff.
As in previous years the set features audio commentaries on all episodes plus the ‘cut down’ version of the BBC Three Doctor Who Confidential programme which peeks behind the scenes of the main series.
These include the special ‘Music & Monsters’ episode of Confidential which looks at the efforts required to realise last year’s Children in Need charity concert.
Also present is David Tennant’s video diary in which the actor takes the viewer on a personal journey through the production of ‘The Runaway Bride’, selected episodes from the series and the Weakest Link Doctor Who special.
These diaries serve to underline just how demanding the show is on the cast and crew. At times Tennant seems utterly exhausted by a demanding production schedule and a personal need to deliver for the show’s ever present fans.
Tennant’s co-star Freema Agyeman takes viewers on a guided tour of the show’s Cardiff production base including a look round the sets of not just Doctor Who but also spin-off shows ‘Torchwood’ and ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’. A selection of outtakes and deleted scenes rounds off the set.
Doctor Who: Complete Series 3 is released on November 5th
