The new run of 8 episodes sees Matt Smith’s Doctor ream up with new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman who previously appeared in the Christmas special and first episode of the previous series.
The first story has been written by the show’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat and has been directed by Colm McCarthy whose previous credits include Hustle, Spooks and Endeavour.
The series also includes episodes written by Mark Gatiss and Neil Gaiman.
2013 marks the show’s 50th anniversary which will be celebrated by a one-off drama which explores its origins.
Entitled An Adventure In Space And Time, the 90-minute special will tell the story of the show’s genesis and explore all aspects of the series to date. The BBC has said it will also look at the many personalities involved in bringing the series to life.
