Anyone thinking of using Orange and O2’s daily data plans for their iPad should note that the paid-for data is only available until the end of the day of purchase, not for 24 hours.
When I called Orange a couple of days ago to enquire about their plans I made a point of asking how long the plan lasted having seen that their website states: “Get 200MB allowance for one day’s usage, lasting until midnight.”
The very help CS agent confirmed that was the case – i.e. if you buy your daily plan at (for example) 22.30 you’ll only get one and a half hours for your money.
I’d assumed this wasn’t the case with O2 given that their website says the daily allowance is “available for 24 hours” but having read a post on Apple’s forums suggesting O2 was following Orange’s ‘until midnight that day’ approach I called O2 customer customer services to check.
After some confusion they confirmed that “available for 24 hours” in reality also only meant ‘until midnight that day’.
Now, the sums in question are pitifully small and if I found myself buying more than 2 or 3 daily plans through the month I’d probably get a monthly plan but I’m sure most people would take “available for 24 hours” to mean that if you bought a plan at 14.00 it’d to run through to 13.59 tomorrow – i.e. a 24 hour period.
