If you’ve not yet seen this year’s festive episode, relax NO SPOiLERS lurk below.
I’ve not enjoyed much of Steven Moffat’s Doctor Who which for me has largely lacked the imagination of the Russell T Davies years. I’ve never found a reason to buy the second two Moffat seasons on DVD or Blu-ray, there’s almost no chance of me wanting to watch them again.
But just when I was thinking it was time to give up and move on Moffat delivers one of most exciting and imaginative Christmas specials yet, possibly the best companion introduction ever and a fantastic new title sequence and Tardis set.
Of course Moffat has produced a great Christmas special before only to bore the pants off me with a lacklustre second season so I’m hoping this time he doesn’t disappoint again.
The omens are good – new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) is a lot less whinny and annoying than Amy Pond and a lot better acted too.
Also on the positive side, the new title sequence is a darned sight better than the previous one which always looked like it was knocked up in the final 5 minutes before The Eleventh Hour aired.
I know its a week early, but on the strength of tonight’s episode I’m going make it my New year’s resolution to adopt an air of mild optimism that 2013 will be a great year for Doctor Who.
