Kobo offers self-published authors 80% royalty pay out

August 24, 2012 - Staff@seenituk

Authors publishing through Kobo’s Writing Life self-publishing portal can now earn an additional 10 percent on sales made this autumn.

The eBook retailer says between September 1st at 12:00 a.m. EST and ending on November 30th at 11:59 p.m. EST new and existing authors will earn 80% in royalties on applicable sales.

Launched in June, Kobo Writing Life allows books to be published in the ePub format “at no cost” and allows writers and publishers to set prices and manage advertising and marketing.

It also offers “key reader insights and marketing tools to engage with readers” and allows authors “to set their book price to “FREE” at any time without restrictive exclusive agreements”

Authors are free to sell the ePub file created with Kobo Writing Life elsewhere.

The company says sales of self-published titles have increased by “700 percent” since the portal launched.

“Our team went to great lengths to ensure Kobo Writing Life would be an intuitive, writer-focused solution adding value to the self-publishing industry, and we’re thrilled with the result,” said Michael Tamblyn, EVP of Content & Merchandising, Kobo.

“From great royalty payouts to the comprehensive reporting dashboard, writers are very happy with how easy the platform is to use. We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response from authors, and we’re excited to offer them this great promotion for the fall.”
