Making XBox movies (without Burt Reynolds)

January 1, 2009 - Staff@seenituk

commentMaybe you’ve seen those adverts with Burt Reynolds for Xbox movie making game, You’re in the Movies? Well, a couple of weeks ago Eedelman PR kindly sent me a copy to have a play with and, with Christmas telly being a teeny bit on the unexciting side this year, I’ve spent some of the festive break having a bit of a play.

I’m rather pleased to be able to say that within a few minutes of plugging in the bundled video camera and sitting through the amusing and easy to follow tutorial, I was quickly working through my first movie.

The magic of placing the ‘actor’ in the scenery is achieved by a software ‘green screen’ – you just position yourself (and hopefully at least one mate) within a green-edged silhouette and make sure the room’s as well lit as possible and you’re suddenly in your very own movie world.

Yo get to choose from a range of scenes in which you have to complete certain actions, such as playing bongoes or using a hula hoop.

Really brave players (or simple those who aren’t easily embarrassed) can opt to share their completed videos via Xbox Live. Mercifully I don’t have an account so!

Lots of fun and easily accessible this is a rewarding way of using your XBox for something a little more constructive than blasting your way through the latest shooter and, unlike most console titles, is something which all age groups can enjoy.

You’re in the Movies can be bought from the seenit.co.uk store
