New Earth Reviews and media Catch Up

April 17, 2006 - Staff@seenituk

A brief catch-up with the past 24 hours media coverage.

A couple of Monday’s papers carry reviews of New Earth. The Guardian’s Sam Wollaston describes the episode as “scary sci-fi, camp humour and warm family viewing all in one” adding that “it’s wonderful.”

Caitlin Moran, writing in Times2, says that the return of the show meant the “medium of television immediately looked 50 per cent brighter and more fun”. The Herald’s Ian Bell states that “Russell T Davies knows his way around a script and the production values are, by the old standards, out of this world”.

icWales comments on the shows ratings triumph over Harry Potter as does Digital Spy. Genre website monstersandcritics.com reports claims from UK tabloid The Mirror which suggests US males aren’t tuning into Doctor Who because they don’t fancy Billie Piper.

The Telegraph reports on the positive effects the new series has had on tourism in South Wales.
