Saturday: The Last Night of The Proms

September 3, 2007 - Staff@seenituk

BBC One and Two will again transmit the celebrated Last Night of the Proms when the season comes to an end this Saturday, 8th September.

Hosted Alan Titchmarsh live from London’s Royal Albert Hall the night promises a rare performance of The Fourth Of August from The Spirit Of England, performed by tenor Andrew Kennedy.

The season’s Shakespearean celebrations are reflected with performances of Dvořk’s Othello Overture and the Prelude from Tom Ades’s recent opera, The Tempest. Violin pyrotechnics are provided by American virtuoso Joshua Bell in Ravel’s Tzigane.

BBC Symphony Orchestra Chief Conductor Jir Bĕlohlvek takes to the podium for the first time to direct the traditional Last Night festivities.

The Last Night Of The Proms will also be broadcasted live by BBC Radio 3 and is available online via Listen Again for seven days after broadcast at bbc.co.uk/radio3.

BBC Two: 7.30-9.20pm
BBC One: 9.20-11.55pm
