This 3 disc set contains the first three stories from the original series – ‘An Unearthly Child’, ‘The Daleks’ and ‘The Edge of Destruction’. Each has been treated to the Restoration Team’s now legendary efforts and look spectacular.
As well as cast and crew commentaries on selected episodes the set boasts two versions of the Pilot episode – the unedited original studio plus a 25 minute version designed to show how it may have looked when edited. The unedited footage also has the option of a commentary by producer Verity Lambert and director Warris Hussein.
Leaping forward a couple of decades are comedy sketches from the 1999 Doctor Who night starring Mark Gatiss and David Walliams – now famous for Little Britain.
Creation of the Daleks is a documentary detailing the origins of the show’s most famous monsters with contributions from many involved in bringing them to the screen.
Piggybacking on the disc containing the two part ‘The Edge of Destruction’ is ‘Doctor Who Origins’ a 55 minute documentary which looks indepth at the show’s beginnings. Accompanying it is ‘Over the Edge’ which looks at the production of this atmospheric story.
‘Masters of Sound’ celebrates the contribution of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop to the show in realising the show’s iconic theme tune.
The disc also includes the full script for An Unearthly Child plus Radio Times listings for the show all in PDF format.
This staggering wealth of extras which puts many new series to shame and combine as a fitting celebration and insight into the creation of a show now enjoying a second ‘golden age’.
