IL-2 Stormovik: Birds Of Prey
For those of you who have been enjoying the aerobatic excitement when flying fighter planes in Battlefield 1943, you could do a lot worse than download the demo of IL-2 Stormovik: Birds Of Prey.
The successful flight sim franchise has been a firm favourite with PC fans, and this new incarnation of the game is also being launched for the XBOX360 and Playstation 3 consoles.
For the uninitiated there is an arcade mode which allows you to get to grips with the basics and get straight into the action. For experienced players there is a simulation mode which limits you to cockpit view only.
You take control of a variety of world war II aircraft and as part of a squadron you are given missions to accomplish. You can order your wing-men to attack specific targets by using the D pad, while your on screen HUD allows you to select your own targets. The right stick is used as the throttle while the left stick is used to pilot your fighter.
The graphics are very effective and give a very realistic impression of what it must have been like to fly a classic fighter plane. The audio does a great job of adding to the realism with your comrades (and adversaries) communicating via on board radios.
If the demo is anything to go by this should be one to watch. As well as a single player campaign mode there will also be a multi-player online mode which should be a real blast.
IL-2 Stormovik: Birds Of Prey is due for release on XBOX 360, PC and Playstation 3 on September 4th and is available to order from the Seenit store. http://seenit.co.uk/store/6-1025616-il2-sr-1-VideoGames.html
