The Guinness Book of World Records have named Doctor Who ‘the longest running science fiction show’.
The award comes after the official series site queried the decision to award Stargate SG-1 the record for ‘Longest running sci-fi TV show (consecutive)’
After some number crunching by Doctor Who Magazine’s Tom Spilsbury and some sterling work on the part of the official series site the show has been granted the status of longest running science fiction show.
Craig Glenday editor of Guinness World Records told the official site “Doctor Who is without question the longest running science fiction show in terms of years. Stargate SG-1 has run without a break since it first hit our screens in 1997, however, so is the longest show with consecutive back to back episodes.”
