Will Young, the talent show winner who truly deserves his success

August 19, 2011 - Martin Hoscik@seenituk

Young's new album is released on August 22nd
Of all the acts to materialise from TV’s plethora of music talent shows, I’d argue that Will Young is the most deserving of the success he’s enjoyed.

People I know who have met him have been bowled over by what they describe as a relaxed, ego-free personality.

And, as this video for his latest album Echoes (out on August 22nd) shows, Young has a genuine talent which is able to sell music without the need for the pop industry’s usual gimmicks and reliance on cheap PR.

In the years since Young won Pop Idol a whole army of ‘winners’ have been hyped by the media but few could be named by the average punter and even fewer are still selling music.

It’s difficult to imagine him needing to allow some tatty digital channel to follow him around for a heavily scripted yet supposedly ‘fly on the wall’ docu!

The video for Jealousy (on the album and out as a single on August 21st) continues the tradition of stunning and imaginative visuals to accompany what I think is one of the best voices in modern music.

Check out the video and, if you agree, why not pop along to our store, Amazon, HMV or iTunes to pre-order a copy of the album?

(Don’t forget Will is appearing in a special Audience With… on ITV later this month.)
