BBC R&D releases new interactive drama starring Martin Freeman for Amazon Alexa

November 26, 2018 - Staff@seenituk

A new BBC interactive drama starring Martin Freeman is now available for Amazon Alexa.

Based on the experimental 1969 ‘book in a box’ by BS Johnson, The Unfortunates is a reworked version of a BBC Radio 3 play and follows a sports journalist whose memories of a dear, dead friend are triggered when he’s sent to report on a football match.

The book was designed to be read in a random order, and the new Alexa skill version sticks to that spirit by randomising every single time it’s listened to – meaning that it’s different for everyone who experiences it, giving everyone a unique perspective on the same story.

The release has been overseen by BBC R&D who have published a blog setting out how it was made.

The Unfortunates can be downloaded for free, and can be found either by asking your Alexa device to enable The Unfortunates, via the Alexa Skill store or via the BBC Taster website.

The original BBC Radio 3 play can be heard here.
