BBC One Controller Jay Hunt has confirmed that Merlin, the channel’s re-telling of the Arthurian legend, is to return for a second series with stars Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Anthony Head and Richard Wilson all set to reprise their roles.
Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales, said: “We are thrilled that audiences have entered into the magical world of Camelot and Merlin has been such a big hit on Saturday nights. It has performed outstandingly well.”
Produced by independent Shine Television, the series jettisons most of the traditional Arthurian stories for a Smallville approach centring on the friendship of a young Merlin and Prince Arthur.
Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy, Producers for Shine Television, said: “The story of Merlin is a much loved tale and it’s so exciting that our updated version has captured the hearts of audiences and brought the magic and myth of Camelot alive.”
